'Celebrate Soulfully At Disney Springs' Honors Black History

Disney previously announced in January that Black History Month would be honored in several ways at Disney Springs with the event “Celebrate Soulfully at Disney Springs.”

But, now we have even more details about the celebrations that are currently underway and will last throughout February. Black History Month began on Feb. 1 and will continue through March 1, 2021.

Here’s what you can expect at Disney Springs during Black History Month.

Dining

The Edison is hosting a special ticketed event with their new Executive Chef, Chef Deaundra “Dee” Rolle. “Chef Dee Presents A Taste of the Bahamas” is one-night only and will feature Caribbean-inspired food, including conch fritters as an appetizer, steamed snapper as an entrée, and benne cake ice cream for dessert.

The event is scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 25 and costs $76 per person. You can purchase tickets online.

If that isn’t enough, Amorette’s Patisserie will debut two new petite cakes starring Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog and Soul‘s Joe Gardner. Both are chocolate cakes with raspberry mousse.

Music & Art

Three nights a week, talented black musicians will take the stage throughout Disney Springs. You can catch them during Motown Mondays, Jazz Thursdays, and Smooth Sundays.

Some of the musicians include: Motown in Motion, Tonya Staples Duo, and Joseph Jevanni.

There will also be four new art displays inspired by Pixar’s Soul created by emerging black artists Bee Harris, Bianca Pastel, Arrington Porter, and Cory Van Lew. Per Disney, the pieces “reflect each artist’s interpretation of the film.”

Shopping

Finally, there are several stores who are spotlighting black designers, artists and visionaries. They include:

Bowes Signature Candles (Marketplace Co-Op): This company was founded by Jamaica native Dave Bowes, who discovered his passion for candle-making in 2002. Today, there are over 110 candle scents sold at Disney Springs and shipped worldwide.
Sephora: The company has made a commitment to dedicate substantial shelf space in-store to diverse companies, like Fenty Beauty (Founder and CEO, Rihanna), Briogeo (Founder and CEO, Nancy Twine), Pat McGrath Labs (Founder & CEO, Pat McGrath), and Shani Darden Skincare (Founder and CEO, Shani Darden).
Art of Disney: Check out the Artist Spotlight to learn more about Floyd Norman, Bruce Smith, and Marlon West, animators who have worked with the Walt Disney Animation Studios on films like The Jungle Book, Hercules, and The Princess and the Frog.
World of Disney: You can find Soul and Princess and the Frog merchandise.
