Is Space 220 Worth The Money? A Breakdown Of Epcot’s Newest Restaurant

If you ever wanted to dine in space, now you can — at Walt Disney World!

So, technically, you’re not actually eating in outer space, but it’s probably the closest thing most of us will ever get to dining “220 miles above Earth.”

Space 220 launched at Epcot on Sept. 20, 2021. Ever since the space elevator doors opened and reservations became available to book, it’s been an extremely popular spot.

Heck, we’ve all been waiting a long time for the opening of Space 220. The space-themed restaurant was first announced in July 2017 at the D23 expo.

At the time, Disney revealed, “The restaurant, which will be located adjacent to the park’s Mission: SPACE attraction, will invite guests to travel into space for amazing dining experiences in the stars.”

Well, we can confirm the experience is both “amazing” and out of this world.

We were lucky enough to snag a lunch reservation at Space 220 during the beginning of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.

How did it go? That’s what we’re here to tell you, along with taking a look at how the process works, what the menu looks like, if it’s actually worth your time and money, and more.

Let’s get to it!

Where is it?

You can find Space 220 in what is now known as “World Discovery.” The restaurant is located directly next to Mission: SPACE.

How do reservations work?

With Space 220’s popularity, reservations are highly-recommended. As of right, the chances of you getting in without a reservation are pretty much slim to none.

When it comes to making reservations, you can book 60 days before your trip begins. You definitely want to make sure you try to snag a reservation as soon as your booking window opens, because they will go fast.

Online reservations for select restaurants open up at 5:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, while phone lines (407-WDW-DINE) open up at 7 a.m. You should always try the website earlier, but make sure to keep the phone number ready if you encounter any issues.

Of course, keep trying, because you never know when something will open up. Someone might cancel!

During our time at Space 220 in October 2021, our server informed us that they’re only booking at half capacity. So, if you can’t get a reservation, you’ll definitely want to keep checking and be on high alert.

TIP: You can also use a reservation finding service. These will either be free or cost a small fee, depending. Reservation finding services check for openings at restaurants that you choose to track and then will send you an alert when something becomes available.

Can I make reservations for the Space 220 Lounge?

space 220 lounge reservations at epcot

As of December 1, 2021, yes you can!

You can make reservations for the Space 220 Lounge in the My Disney Experience app and online.

If you don’t want a full meal or to pay the prix fixe price for lunch or dinner, the Lounge is a good option.

You’ll still get the full Space 220 experience, but keep in mind that the lounge tables are much smaller compared to regular dining. If you have a bigger party, this may make for a tight squeeze.

Is there walk-up availability?

space 220 my disney experience app

Even though you can make reservations for the Space 220 Lounge, there is walk-up availability for lounge service remaining through Dec. 18/19, 2021. After this, reservations will be required.

Keep the following in mind:

  • There might not be a virtual queue to join (like for Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Resort), meaning you may have to wait in a Standby Line.
  • Currently, walk-up availability and waitlists aren’t available in the My Disney Experience app.
  • Sometimes they might take names, whereas at other times, they might not. The walk-up process seems to vary depending on the time of day and other factors.
  • If they are taking names, it appears they start taking them one hour before opening — 10:30 a.m. But, you should arrive earlier than that. Be sure to get to Epcot prior to park official opening (rope drop is key here) and even take advantage of the Early Theme Park Entry, if you’re eligible to do so.

The Space 220 walk-up process may require a lot of waiting, but if this is at the top of your list and you don’t have a reservation, unfortunately waiting will be involved.

space 220 walk-up line epcot

We’ve heard from other guests that Cast Members will sometimes let guests sign up in the morning for a later time in the day and sometimes they only allow walk-ins.

You might also want to try about 45 to 60 minutes prior to closing, which we’ve been told is also a good time for walk-up lounge entry.

Evenings could be a better option, because more than likely people will head to Space 220 first thing to try for walk-up availability.

Of course, there is no guarantee and it all depends on the time of day, the season, crowds, and other factors. You also need to figure out what is best for you and your plans, because waiting hours in line just to eat (at a very cool restaurant, albeit) might not be worth it in the end.

If you’re unsure of the process, you can always a nearby Cast Member. There’s also a Cast Member sitting at a desk at the front of the line.

Another thing to keep in mind regarding the lounge: The lounge is a small section located closest to the bar, which is also technically in the lounge.

You can spot the difference between regular tables and lounge seating due to the smaller white tables used for the lounge area. The tables are vastly smaller and a tight squeeze, especially if there are 4 in your party.

If you don’t want a full meal (the dishes are a good size), the lounge is a great option. Plus, you can save money in the process, depending on how much you order.

How much does it cost?

The price ranges for children (ages 3 to 9) and adults. It also depends on the meal. Only a prix-fixed lunch and dinner are served.

Lunch runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. Dinner service is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

As for pricing, it’s as follows:

  • Adult Lunch: $55 per adult (1 appetizer, 1 entrée)
  • Adult Dinner: $79 per adult (1 appetizer, 1 entrée, 1 dessert)
  • Kids Lunch: $29 per child (1 entrée, 1 dessert, 1 beverage, complimentary pack of Space 220 collectible trading cards)
  • Kids Dinner: $29 per child (1 entrée, 1 dessert, 1 beverage, complimentary pack of Space 220 collectible trading cards)

Beverages with alcohol are an additional price. You can also order dessert for lunch, but you will be charged extra.

If you have strictly lounge service, you are charged per menu item. Lounge service is not prix-fixe.

What’s the menu like?

There are a range of options for both lunch, dinner, dessert, beverages, and kids. There’s also a separate lounge menu.

The following menus are posted on the official Space 220 restaurant website. You can click on each menu for a closer look.

What does the dining experience entail?

Dining at Space 220 is an experience unlike any other restaurant on property.

It genuinely feels like you’re in outer space dining 220 miles above Earth. Disney really hit it out of the park with this Table Service spot.

Here’s the process from beginning to end.

Checking In

When it’s time for your dining reservation, you’ll walk past the Standby Line to this check-in desk. They’ll ask for your name and once everything is squared away, you’ll be directed down a walkway that leads to the lobby door.

Lobby Area

As soon you step inside the lobby area you get an immediate sense that you’re heading to space.

There’s a desk area with a Cast Member who directs you to have a seat while you wait for your space elevator to arrive.

This is the seating area. It’s really nice that you don’t have to wait outside for your table to be ready, but that you can sit, rest your feet, and cool off in the process.

When it’s your turn to board the elevator, also known as the “Stellarvator,” a Cast Member will call your name. We barely waited before it was time to hop on the elevator.

Boarding Pass

Once the Cast Member calls your name, they’ll hand you your “Space Elevator Boarding Pass,” which you hold onto until you depart the elevator after your arrival in space.

Space Elevator

space 220 space elevator

The space elevator simulates you taking off from Epcot into space 220 miles above Earth. It’s seriously cool and the views are awesome.

If you’re prone to motion sickness, this really isn’t rough or anything like that. The movement is slight. But everybody is different and there’s a chance the video simulation could make you nauseous.

Overall, this is an unbelievably amazing touch by Disney that makes you feel as if you’re actually blasting off into space.

Arrival

When you get off the elevator, you head down a corridor where you hand over your boarding pass to Cast Members who will lead you to your table.

You’ll also get to see a spinning wall of produce representing the fruits and vegetables grown on Earth.

Dining

You’ll be seated in either the upper or lower dining room area. If you sit in the lower area, you’re closer to the windows that look out over space and Earth.

If you’re in the upper area, you have better view of the windows and what’s flying outside.

Really, there’s no bad view.

No matter where you sit, you can see the outside the windows overlooking Earth and the different images that float by, including astronauts, a space dog, a family of astronauts, two astronauts fighting with lightsabers, the X-2 Deep Space Shuttle from Mission: SPACE, and more.

Be sure to go in hungry, because you get very good portion sizes! For our lunch, we (Felicia and Allyson) each had 1 appetizer and 1 entrée.

Here’s what we tried. Spoiler: we loved it all!

First drinks….

  • The Nebula ($15): Maker’s Mark, Pineapple, Honey, Passion Fruit, Angostura Bitters, Moon Dust

  • Atmospritz ($15): New Amsterdam Vodka, Aperol, Monin Blood Orange, Orange Juice, Prosecco, Cotton Candy Cloud

Next, appetizers…

  • Big Bang Burrata: Burrata di Mozzarella, Grilled Artichoke Hearts, Arugula, Sunflower Seed Romesco

  • Blue Moon Cauliflower (Vegan): Tempura Fried Cauliflower, Housemade Hot Sauce, Blue Cheese Dust

Finally, our entrées…

  • Baked Maccheroni: Candele Pasta, Sausage Ragu, Broccolini, Sheep’s Milk Ricotta, Béchamel, Pecorino
space 220 baked maccheroni entree
  • Terra-Bolognese (Vegetarian and Gluten-Free): Corn Linguine, Tempeh Ragu, Macadamia Nut “Ricotta”, Zucchini, Mushroom
space 220 plant based terra bolognese entree

Every single bit was fantastic and we did not walk away hungry. What we ordered was hands-down some of the best food we’ve had served on property.

Departure

space 220 elevator back to earth

Once you’re finished eating and paying the bill, you’ll head back out the way you arrived towards the elevator. You simply wait until it arrives and then you’re directed by the Cast Member to board.

The views returning to Epcot are just as spectacular as when you depart. After you exit the elevator, you’ll exit the building through the lobby and enjoy the rest of your day!

Is Space 220 worth it?

space 220 sign

Now, let’s try to the answer the big question: is Space 220 worth it?

There’s no denying there’s a big price tag attached to the restaurant.

Not only are you paying for food and beverages, but you’re also forking over money for a unique dining experience that doesn’t include characters (they aren’t needed whatsoever here nor would they make sense).

In our opinion, Space 220 is very much worthy the money — at least for lunch. We can’t judge dinner service (yet) because we haven’t tried it, but lunch was spectacular.

We would go back in a heartbeat and pay the price for a fantastic and filling meal, rather than hand over money for mediocre Quick Service or for multiple dishes at festival booths that are just ok.

Of course, the money adds up for bigger parties and families. But, if you’re visiting Walt Disney World for the first time or want at least one good (and special) meal, we highly recommend Space 220.

Disney hit the nail on the head with Space 220. It’s truly remarkable.
